Vitamin D deficiency due to too little sun: info and solutions

Vitamin D occupies a special position among vitamins: Unlike most vitamins, we cannot absorb enough of it from food. The body forms most of the vitamin on the skin when it gets enough sun. This is why vitamin D is also called the "sunshine vitamin". Unfortunately, in our latitudes, the supply is not that easy, so deficiencies can be common.

Vitamin D deficiency is a common problem

In order for the body to produce vitamin D, it must get enough sun. Production is only possible with a certain UVB radiation intensity. In Central Europe, the sun's rays in winter are not sufficient for this. And even in summer, many people do not produce enough vitamin D by far. Especially if you spend a lot of time indoors during the day, you can quickly develop a deficiency. People with dark skin, pregnant women and senior citizens are particularly at risk of vitamin D deficiency.

To ensure a sufficient supply of vitamin D, you need to expose yourself to the sun several times a week during the warm months, without sunscreen. It is important that you only stay in the sun for a short time so as not to increase the risk of sunburn and skin cancer. As you can see, it's not that easy to make sure you get enough vitamin D.

Vitamin D is very important for calcium metabolism. If there is not enough vitamin D, calcium cannot be processed properly. This can increase the risk of osteoporosis or bone softening. Also, a vitamin D deficiency could make you more susceptible to infections, possibly making you more vulnerable to colds and other infections. Inflammation, heart problems, autoimmune diseases and other serious problems are also consistently linked to vitamin D deficiency. Sufferers also feel tired, lacking in energy and drive, and sometimes even have nonspecific aches and pains.

In case of doubt: Have your vitamin D level determined

If you are concerned that you may have a vitamin D deficiency, you should have your vitamin D level measured. To do this, the doctor takes a small amount of blood and has it tested in the laboratory. Afterwards, you will know exactly whether you have a sufficient supply of this important vitamin or whether you should take supplements. In the case of a massive deficiency, you will be prescribed high doses of vitamin D. You can counteract a manageable deficiency with vitamin D supplements. For example, many people take vitamin D as a precaution during the winter months because they know that a natural supply is almost impossible during this time.

Prevent vitamin D deficiency with supplements

If your body doesn't have an adequate supply of the sunshine vitamin, then supplements can help. In many cases, it makes sense to supply your body not only with vitamin D, but also with calcium. After all, these two substances work closely together in the body and depend on each other. But other minerals and vitamins, such as K2, can also intensify the effect of the food supplement.

From our assortment we recommend SILICIUM LIQUID or SILICIUM PRIME. SILICIUM LIQUID is a liquid food supplement with valuable MCT oil. Besides silicon, it contains vitamin K2 and vitamin D3. SILICIUM PRIME are vegetarian and aluminum-free capsules. They contain silicon, calcium, magnesium, vitamin K2 and vitamin D3. So you provide yourself with the valuable vitamin D and other valuable ingredients.
